Protect and enhance the gift of sight
Optometrists are primary eye care providers who examine eyes for vision and health problems, prescribe corrective lenses, diagnose and manage eye diseases, and provide pre- and post-operative care. They use advanced diagnostic technology to detect systemic conditions like diabetes and hypertension that manifest in the eye.
You start with a comprehensive eye exam — checking visual acuity, using a phoropter to refine a prescription, performing a slit-lamp exam to assess eye health, and capturing retinal images with OCT. After lunch, you fit a teen with their first contact lenses, counsel a patient on digital eye strain, and co-manage a cataract surgery patient. You close charts, clean equipment, and head home knowing you protected someone's sight.
