Midwife / Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) — Career Preview

Guide families through one of life's biggest moments

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) are advanced practice nurses who provide prenatal care, attend births, and care for women across the lifespan. They blend evidence-based clinical practice with a woman-centered, physiologic philosophy of birth — supporting informed choice, continuity of care, and family-centered support.

A day in the life

You start the morning with prenatal visits — checking fundal heights, listening to fetal heart tones, and answering nervous first-time-parent questions. Mid-shift you're called to the birth suite to support a laboring mom through transition, then catch a baby and place them on her chest. You finish the day with a postpartum home check and lactation support. The work is physical, emotional, and deeply meaningful.
