How to Write a Resume When You Have Zero Experience

No job history? No problem. Here's how to build a resume that actually stands out — even as a first-timer.

Every working adult started with zero experience. Here's how to make your first resume count:

Lead with Skills, Not Job Titles
Create a "Skills" section at the top. Include technical skills (software, tools, languages) and soft skills (teamwork, communication, problem-solving).

Include Everything That Counts
School projects, volunteer work, sports teams, clubs, babysitting, lawn care — these all demonstrate responsibility and skills.

Use Action Verbs
Don't say "Was part of the yearbook team." Say "Designed layouts and coordinated photo submissions for 200-page yearbook."

Add Your LaunchPoint Certificates
Completed a curriculum on LaunchPoint? Add it! It shows initiative and real knowledge about a career field.

Keep It to One Page
Clean, simple, no fancy fonts. Use a free template from Google Docs or Canva.

Write a Short Summary
2-3 sentences at the top about who you are and what you're looking for. Example: "Motivated high school junior passionate about healthcare and helping others. Seeking entry-level or volunteer opportunities in a clinical setting."
